Tim Smitt from and J D Souther heard Andrew Gold recording the song and hit Never let her slip away and liked the rhythm. The song then originated from an electric jam session between Glenn Frey and Bob Seger who would visit Freys home in Los Angeles whenever he was in town on tour.
