Following two indifferently-received and relatively low-selling albums, Barry White Sings for Someone You Love restored Whites standing, both critically and commercially. The album topped the R&B chart (Whites fifth album to achieve this) and reached #8 on the pop listings, becoming the second-highest charting pop release of Whites career, bettered only by the 1974 chart-topping Cant Get Enough.
