"Lady Lynda" is a song written by vocalist and guitarist Alan Jardine and Ron Altbach for the American rock band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1979 album L.A. (Light Album).
The music is derived from Johann Sebastian Bachs composition Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring, with the opening harpsichord part being play by Sterling Smith. http://www.cabinessence.net/tracks/files/l/lady_lynda.shtml The lyrics to the song refer to Jardine's then-wife, Lynda Jardine. After the two divorced, the song was rewritten as "Lady Liberty", a tribute to the Statue of Liberty.
The song hit #7 in the UK Singles Chart, although it was bereft of the harpsichord opening that was an important part in the album version . It also reached #39 on the U.S. adult contemporary chart. Read full article at wikipedia.org
