It was first recorded in 1967 by the American group Soul Brothers Six, peaking at number ninety-one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It is not related to the other song by the same name written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King (and recorded by artists including The Drifters and Marvin Gaye). In 1974, Grand Funk Railroad recorded the song for the groups album All the Girls in the World Beware!!!.
